The Les Paul 1959 is known as "Number Two" (serial number 91.703), and was given by Joe Walsh in 1973 to Jimmy Page.
The number two was totally original when he received it but the first change made was to reduce the thickness of the neck to be alike the Gibson number one. Page used this Gibson like this till the 80’s.
He decides later that it should be the most all-round instrument of all.
It was his goal to study all the solutions of sounds that he could get by modifying the two humbuckers. The idea was to build a system of switching, dividing the coil in series and parallel and the options of reverse-phase for both pickups. He worked with a technical qualified in electronics for thinking up a schematic work and to practice his ideas, really to create the most possible sound solutions.
The result includes a push-pull on each of the four knobs of the guitar and also two hidden pushbuttons under the mask (pick guard). All this has made unique a Les Paul Standard 59 for the sounds and the easy way to play it. The Gibson Custom Shop has built also for this version in 2009 three versions: for this number two, 25 AGED SIGNED, 100 SIGNED and the non antique version of 200 VOS. Also in this opportunity the signed were remade in a perfect copy of that of Jimmy Page and authenticated in every little particular detail by Tom Murphy.
The assembled pickup circuit with a push-pull for every potentiometer and two pushbuttons for commutate in range and parallel under the pick guard for making the same sounds like the original Gibson 59. I bought my GIBSON NUMBER 2 by Sergio Tomassone in Bologna, thanking him for having fulfilled the wish to have an AGED n2 for the list price.
This guitar is also placed behind glass near number 1 and as you can see on the picture II put the cover of the pickup on the bridge because it is for my taste even more beautiful and original.
